Who We Are
In 1887, 31 extraordinary women forever impacted the history of Winston-Salem when they came together to form the Ladies Twin-City Hospital Association, raising the standard for health care and demonstrating the remarkable vision and power of women to accomplish great things. These women not only raised sufficient funding in five short months to open the community's first hospital, they also hired the first registered nurse in the state of North Carolina. Today, their legacy lives on as Forsyth Medical Center.
Following in our foremother's footsteps, the Women's Council of Forsyth Medical Center Foundation was founded in 2008 to ensure that life is a healthy journey for as many women as possible. The Council will accomplish that by making certain that resources for good health are available. Members will sponsor educational opportunities and raise funds to support women's health programs through the Council's hallmark annual event The Garden Party.
Council members welcome your involvement and invite you to join us. Women who joined between April 2008 and March 31, 2009 hold the distinction of founding members.
We welcome you to our Web site and invite you to contact us with any questions you might have. We hope you will join us in reaffirming the vision and power of women to accomplish great things.
